Well Thanksgiving has come and gone for another year. Just like most holidays, I don't think they age very well. It seems the older I get the less "magic" or even excitement I have around any holiday. I relish more the thought of a break than the opportunity to celebrate a holiday. I look around at what America has turned the holidays into and its not a surprise. If Thanksgiving is the day were supposed to be thankful for all we have then why do we gorge ourselves beyond belief, spend the rest of the day sleeping or eating more food while looking at the best deals we want to get the next day. I think we've got Thanksgiving all backwards. If we were truly thankful for all that we have then we would spend the day helping others or giving to others. You do not express thanks by hording up the good you have received, but by sharing with others the joy it brings to you. If I could have a perfect Thanksgiving it wouldn't be a table piled high with food and crowded with family, it would take place all year through constant acts of charity and love for one another. It would be demonstrated through my respect and reverence for all human beings, all the children of God. So in retrospect I do not believe that Thanksgiving is the time of year we are most thankful. Quite the opposite is the case across the country, however, if you have spent the year being generous and kind to all those around you, then thanksgiving isn't a holiday. It's not even a break at all, it's one of the best rewards for being charitable the rest of the year, its an opportunity to work with your family and on your family relations. For this purpose, I believe, is why we should celebrate Thanksgiving and what we need to keep in my all the year round. As the old saying goes for the next holiday, he sees you when your sleeping, he knows if you've been bad or good. So be good for goodness' sake. Happy Holidays everyone and if your interested yes I did enjoy my Thanksgiving. As awkward and uncomfortable as it was at times I still enjoyed the precious time I spent with my family and friends while I was back home.
